At Stoke Lane Dentistry, our team can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile with Dental Veneers. These thin shells of porcelain are fitted to the front of teeth that are discoloured, uneven or unattractively shaped. The treatment can be used for individual problem teeth, or for all the visible front teeth for a complete smile makeover.

Many people have imperfections with their smile that they would ideally like to change. This could be anything from an overly yellow or dark colouration (either natural or as a result of lifestyle choices) to an unevenness and irregularity in shape and position.
Veneers can completely change the look of both the colour and shape of your teeth. The exact shade is up to you (so you can choose a celebrity-style smile or a more natural improvement), while bespoke shaping enables a straight and more balanced smile to be achieved.
Veneers are usually made from porcelain, which has a number of advantages. It is a strong and durable material which aids the longevity of the veneers. Porcelain also doesn’t aggravate the surrounding gum tissue and is difficult to stain, keeping your new smile whiter for longer.
Your teeth will initially need to be assessed to check that they are suitable for veneers. At the first treatment appointment, a small amount of the natural tooth surface will be removed in order to accommodate the fitting of the new veneer. Impressions are then taken and are sent to a laboratory for the veneer to be created.
When this is ready, a second appointment is arranged to fit it into position. A resin cement is used to securely bond the veneer to the natural tooth. This is then polished for a perfect final result.
Although they are not designed to be permanent, veneers are very durable and typically last between ten and fifteen years. The exact length of time is influenced by how well they are looked after. Veneers can be chipped and damaged like normal teeth, so care should be taken when eating particularly hard foods. Good oral hygiene is also strongly advised.
